Carnival of Venice - Padua- Trieste - Ljubljana Spa Tour

Your tour begins in Venice, surely the ultimate destination for Baroque; it is evident in almost every building. During the Carnival of Venice this Baroque style explodes into life, as thousands of revellers fill the streets, lavishly dressed and exotically masked.

The Carnival dates back to the 12th century, runs for two weeks and always culminates on Pancake Tuesday, the day before Lent begins. In 2016, Shrove Tuesday falls on February 23rd, and in 2017 it will be February 28th.

The Carnival is the very definition of excess! Zsuzsanna will tailor your time here to ensure you experience what's most important to you. Maybe you'll choose to:

  • Live your "walking dead" nightmares by participating in the surreal and extraordinary Zombie Walk
  • Attend the beauty pageant in St Mark's Square, where contestants compete for la maschera più bella (the most beautiful mask)
  • Dress up fabulously for The Grand Masquerade Ball

Venice is a wonderful city at any time of year so, if the Carnival isn't for you, Tasteful Tours can design an alternative itinerary based on your personal preferences.

During your time here, you'll also visit Murano Island to see the glass artisans demonstrating their world-famous glass making and glass blowing skills.

The next stop on your tour is the medieval city of Padua. Here you will enjoy three nights at the sublime Abano Grand Hotel, the only 5-star luxury hotel in the province. Indulge in some designer shopping at discount prices at the Noventa di Piave outlet mall, with brands including Valentino, Fendi and Prada.

You then head to Italy's north-eastern Adriatic coast and the ancient port of Trieste. Founded by the ancient Romans, this city is steeped in history and, according to at least one source, serves the finest coffee in Italy! You will stay at the Savoia Excelsior Palace Hotel, and dine on seafood and Italian delicacies at the Antica Trattoria Menarosti. Zsuzsanna also recommends at least one meal at the exquisite Caffè Tommaseo, which was founded in 1830.

For the last two nights of your European adventure, you can unwind in Slovenia's capital, Ljubljana, and enjoy superb accommodation and treatments at the exclusive Antiq Palace Hotel & Spa. Zsuzsanna's dining suggestions are the landmark Nebotičnik restaurant (famous for its stunning views of the city as well as its fine food) and Špajza, a delightful local favourite and hidden gem.

As with all Tasteful Tours' personalised guided holidays, the tour dates are flexible for your calendar. You need not worry about a thing – Zsuzsanna and her team will take care of all the reservations, including accommodation, travel between destinations, meals, spa treatments, and tickets for any special events.
